Sugar Snap Peas from Guatemala are grown predominantly in the departments of Chimaltenango, Sololá and Huehuetenango, being Chimaltenango the area of production for the first and last crops of the season and Sololá and Huehuetenango the production areas for the middle of the season, the last gaining more and more importance in the production of this crop due to the coolest weather conditions in the high lands of the country.
The interest from farmers to dedicate their efforts to the Sugar Snap production is variable, with some farmers prefering the crop due to its highest weigh compared to the Snow Peas Mangetout, and other farmers prefering not to plant them because it is a lot more delicate and more suceptible of mechanical damage.
